I did this and it vanished again. I need to keep a paper copy. I think César is a colourful character (white, yellow and red hair, greenish teeth and let's not mention the nose hair). As a younger man he was attractive and is quite posh by village standards but now, nearing 60, he is solitary and suffering. He would like to see his family line continue but his only hope for that is his nephew Ugolin who wants only to live out his life hoarding and counting his money behind closed doors. Partly because of how expensive a wife would be he doesn't want ever to marry: he is not so tight-fisted that he couldn't offer Adélie 40 sous to sleep with him on Saturday nights. She was too delicate for that suggestion so settled for an extra 10 sous per hour - on top of her pay for cleaning and cooking - and both seemed happy with that arrangement.
I have been trying to read this in bed but there are soooo many words I don't know ! Back to the dictionary for me !! Heaven help intermediate class !!
