Me too! One year when my parents went on holiday with all my brothers and I stayed with my granny (they told me my school holidays were at a different time but I'm not so sure) I went to a pet shop which used to be in Fleshmarket Close and tried to buy a kitten. I don't expect I had any money and the man in the shop said I had to get a letter from my mother which I knew perfectly well would never happen. Is that not the saddest tale (or tail) you ever heard??
I had a similar experience at my daughter's last week. An old poodle was wandering about outside in the persisting (polite!) down rain. Angus brought it in and we dried it off. It was really quite weak and pathetic. Angus fed it on oatcakes and gave it some squash. The grown-ups went searching the surrounding area for anyone looking for a poodle but alas this was not to be, so after quite a few hours we decided to phone the dog-warden who promptly arrived. After examining the dog and finding no micro-chip it was decided to put it in prison. Happily, it was bailed the next day by the owners. Angus was very sad as he thought it was going to be his new dog! C'est la vie !
